Update to NATECLA's No-Deal Brexit Statement

NATECLA would like to update members on the latest Home Office announcements about Freedom of Movement, following our recent statement about our concerns about Freedom of Movement (dated 29/8/19).

On 5th September the government made an announcement about new guidelines regarding temporary leave to remain (TLR):

On the same day, the Home Office also issued a new policy paper regarding No-deal immigration arrangements for EU citizens arriving after Brexit.

On this policy paper the Home Office has now confirmed that EU citizens coming to the UK will have full rights to live, work, and study in the UK for a transitional period:

"EU citizens moving to the UK after Brexit
For a transitional period after Brexit on 31 October 2019 until 31 December 2020, law abiding EU citizens and their family members will be able to move to the UK and live, study, work and access benefits and services as they do now."

Based on this statement, we understand that new EU citizens coming to the UK will be fully eligible for AEB funded courses until 31st December 2020, at which point a new system will be introduced.

Statements and policies are changing regularly at the moment and we advise all providers to follow the situation carefully. We will also keep monitoring the situation and endeavour to issue updates of any further changes.

Thank you,
NATECLA Policy Team
