Embedding and Integrating Literacy, Language and ESOL
EMBEDDING AND INTEGRATING LITERACY, LANGUAGE AND NUMERACY
Thursday 8 March 2007, London
There is increasing recognition that addressing the Literacy, Language and Numeracy (LLN) needs of learners within vocational programmes can provide learners with the confidence, competence and motivation necessary for them to succeed. (DfES 2004) Recent research from the NRDC (2005) has clearly demonstrated the benefits of embedding, highlighting the strong correlations between embedded features of provision and higher retention and achievement rates. This conference will enable participants to find out about the latest research and current practice in the field.
More immediately
Although many providers are keen to develop embedded courses, they are concerned about the best ways of going about this and about having the resources to do it well. This conference will draw together information about the latest research with practical approaches to embedding in a range of vocational areas and provide opportunities for delegates to explore the challenges and opportunities that they face.
Aims
By the end of the conference we hope that delegates will:
Know about UK and international research into embedding LLN
Have a greater understanding of the whole organization approach to embedding
Have explored the challenges and opportunities that embedding presents
Have a practical understanding of how to embed LLN into a range of vocational subjects, as well as how to plan and fund embedded courses
The event will be of particular interest to:
Teachers and managers in literacy, numeracy and ESOL programmes and vocational education in FE colleges, 6th form colleges and adult and community education centres
Workplace learning providers
Anyone with an interest in research into embedded approaches to LLN
