Study of basic skills learning in the workplace

The Government’s Skills for Life initiative has not significantly improved literacy or the economic performance of participating companies, according to the first study of basic skills learning in the workplace. The study, led by Professor Alison Wolf of Kings College, London and funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, found that the basic skills programme did little to improve people’s earning potential, productivity or employability.
