FULLY BOOKED: ESOL Change and Challenge: NATECLA London Autumn Conference

THIS EVENT IS NOW FULLY BOOKED

NATECLA London have now confirmed their Autumn half day conference:

ESOL: Change and Challenge

You will be able to attend 2 workshops from a choice of 6, plus: sponsors tables, cake, resources, support and inspiration!

WORKSHOP SESSION 1: From 12.45 to 13.45

  • Sponsor bannerGrammar for Change and Challenge, Helen Rankin - Do you have learners with career and/or study aspirations who have got “stuck”, for example at Entry3 level? Often these committed learners have worked their way up through the ESOL levels and it is a frustrating situation for both sides. This workshop will look at the role of grammar and how sometimes going back is a way of going forwards. It will provide opportunities to share experience and tips, as well as to think about how to approach grammar teaching. This session will be of interest to both experienced and inexperienced practitioners as well as managers responsible for attainment or CPD
  • Creativity and confidence, Nighat Khan - a hands-on workshop to create opportunities for identity discussion
  • Participatory tools for making yourself heard, Dermot Bryers - Participatory tools for making yourself heard: the very successful English for Action route to learner participation

Workshop session 2: From 15:00 to 16:00

  • Sponsor bannerHuman Rights in Practice, Siobhan Markwell - This session introduces some great EU commissioned materials that combine English language practice with a focus on human rights in theory and in practice.
  • Keep it Play, Ian Wollington - This workshop will examine the classroom as a sphere of play: what does it mean to play? What are the implications of configuring the classroom as a 'game' for our pedagogical and classroom practices?
  • Shifting identities of ESOL learners', Vivjijana Bonetti - Within the wider debates of ESOL educational policy, racism and the structural inequalities that operate on a range of economic and social levels, ESOL learners are continuously negotiating, resisting, transforming and subverting dominant discourses. In this workshop, we evaluate the effectiveness of various methods and resources in the classroom and identify the strategies that ESOL learners use to find their voice.
