Post 14 Centre Conference - Apprenticeship in Challenging Times, London NRDC Weds 7 July
A London Region Post-14 Network Conference
Apprenticeship in Challenging Times
Wednesday 7th July
9.30am – 3.40pm
Elvin Hall, Institute of Education
University of London
This is the fourth in this year’s Institute of Education Centre for Post-14 Research and Innovation’s acclaimed conference series examining the four route ways available 14-19. This fourth route, apprenticeship, is probably the least understood, and the most removed, certainly, from the experience of those working in schools and local authorities. This should not be the case. It is an important route, and one that employers and policy makers continue to press, both for those individuals who prefer practical and work based learning, and to meet the skills gap. For many this route is central to the discussion about employability, and around participation post-14. However the received paradigm of mass apprenticeships in vast industrial premises is no longer valid, and new models of apprenticeship are emerging.
We have assembled a distinguished panel of expert speakers who will cover the full range of apprenticeships: at higher levels, for younger students, in established industries and in newly emerging employment areas.
During this present period of policy review this is a timely conference, exploring the potential of, and the future for apprenticeships. Our audience throughout this year has been particularly responsive and eager to join in the debate. To this end we have given over a high proportion of the conference to questions, discussion and a full plenary.
As previously a record of the conference debate conclusions will be published on the Institute website.
Please email Richard Bull at r.bull@ioe.ac.uk for booking form and further details.
We hope that you are able to join us.
