The Canterbury Tales (Teaching for Autonomy in Learning English as a Second Language): Stories Told and Voices Heard. Thge programme is designed to give all with an interest in this area, and particularly ESOL practitioners, trainee teachers, Master’s students and researchers, the opportunity to explore in depth the challenges such learners bring with a full day of talks and workshops on Saturday 6th December: Leni Dam, on teaching for autonomy; David Little, on the educational integration of children and adolescents from migrant backgrounds; Mario Rinvolucri, on learners’ marvellous autonomy in listening to stories; Philida Schellekens, on learner independence in the ESOL classroom; how museums promote learner independence and language development, with Bev Davies and Ann-Marie McGaughey. Mark Krzanowski will also be joining us to speak on his feedback from disadvantaged learners and trainers in the Middle East. Our event opens with an evening of celebration of cultural diversity with storyteller Janet Dowling and a welcoming reception on Friday 5th December so we hope people will be able to attend both days.
