NRDC Lecture 12th June 2008 17:30 - 20:00 Elvin Hall, Institute of Education, University of London, 20 Bedford Way, London, WC1H 0AL Addressing post-16 Basic Skills in England: Ten Years On Susan Pember - Director, FE, Learning and Skills Performance Group, Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills This lecture will look at the challenges faced in 1998 after the OECD's International Adult Literacy Survey showed the extent of literacy and numeracy problems among the UK's adult population - challenges which were confirmed by the 1999 report of the independent 'Moser' working group on adult basic skills. Susan Pember will reflect on the Skills for Life strategy launched by the Government in 2001, assess its achievements since then - and look at the future of basic skills policy and practice.
