Why join NATECLA?

As the professional association for teachers of ESOL and community languages throughout the U.K. and Ireland, NATECLA’s members are rewarded with a range of opportunities to acquire and share information, expertise and good practice about the sector with like-minded ESOL professionals.

From only £20 per year (or free for a year for new student members or refugees and asylum seekers) our members receive a range of invaluable benefits. We attract membership from organisations, voluntary sector organisations, individual members, volunteers, retired teachers and trainee teachers.

    The new members’ platform will provide you with more control over your NATECLA account including a seamless approach to event bookings.

    In this area, you will have access to your own profile which you can keep up to date for networking with your peers. Additionally, there are forums based on specific interest and geographical area.

    Lastly, there is a curated media library filled with resources including recorded webinars on various subjects.

    High quality, current and affordable practical in-house training, specially tailored for ESOL departments and delivered by our team of official NATECLA trainers.

    Our sessions are delivered either online or in-person to suit and range from a 90 minute session to a full day or more.

    Topics we cover include basic literacy for ESOL, teacher teens, trauma-informed ESOL, Using authentic listening resources productively, online tools to aid vocabulary development and so much more.

    Our Annual Conference

    Members receive significant discounts of entry to our Annual Conference, known throughout the sector as the leading event in the ESOL calendar.

    Join other ESOL and ELT practitioners from all over the UK and Ireland to engage in superb talks and workshops, discussion and ideas-sharing sessions, a diverse exhibition area and relaxed social activities.

  • ESOL webinar programme for teachers

    Webinars and branch events

    NATECLA runs a diverse webinar programme focused on practical application, discussion and current trends. Expert trainers lead 75-minute sessions on topics from teaching young learners to embedding Maths in ESOL.

    Individual members can access webinars for £5, while institutional members can register up to five staff at the same rate. Members also receive discounts on branch conferences and forums which run throughout the year.

    Language Issues

    All members receive our journal Language Issues, which is available as a PDF or online.

    This is the only peer reviewed journal dedicated to teaching, training, management and research into ESOL and community languages

    Members can access past issues of the journal via the media library in the members area.

    Reduced IATEFL membership

    NATECLA has an affiliate relationship with the organisation which allows our members to join IATEFL on a basic membership rate.

Packages for organisations

Organisational members can join NATECLA all year round with immediate access to benefits. As an organisation, you can take advantage of all the benefits mentioned above, plus:

Packages for individuals

Individual members can join NATECLA all year round with immediate access to benefits. Membership runs for 12 months from the joining date and prices quoted below are per year.

Individuals can join NATECLA with a minimal fee per year

Simply find the type of membership you want above and click on the appropriate ‘apply…’ link and you will be taken to our membership system (Very Connect). There you will select the level of membership you require and complete the payment online. You will receive an email confirming membership. If you have any difficulties with the online process please contact us for assistance.

You can pay for NATECLA membership by debit/credit card (via Stripe). If you want an institutional membership you can contact us with a purchase order number if required and we will send you an invoice.

Free membership!

You can apply for one free year of Individual NATECLA membership if you are:

  • a student: for trainee teachers or those working towards a PGCE, DELTA, CELTA or a Masters in ELT/TESOL.

  • a refugees or asylum seeker and a teacher of ESOL/EFL.
