Drawing on the recent publication of the book 'Remaking Adult Learning' NIACE and IOE will host a conference enabling a comprehensive exploration of some of the key themes of the book. Set amongst a backdrop of a changing and shifting political landscape the conference aims to examine some of the challenges and conundrums facing adult learning and to instigate serious debate on the place of adult learning in future public policy.
Keynote speakers during the day will include members of both the IOE and NIACE alongside speakers from the University of Birmingham, Workers' Educational Association, Campaign for Learning, Longview and the Institute for Learning.
The conference mirrors the structure of the book Remaking Adult Learning enabling a deep and rich exploration of the book's themes:
- Participation and equality
- The role of adult learning in social movements
- Adults learning and teaching in different contexts
- Adult learning and policy
- The value of learning for its own sake.
The conference will draw upon local, national and global perspectives, contemporary research and incisive analysis concluding with a session on future public policy and the place of adult learning within it.
The conference fee includes a copy of the book, Remaking Adult Learning edited by Jay Derrick, Ursula Howard, John Field, Peter Lavender, Sue Meyer, Ekkehard Nuissl von Rein and Tom Schuller.
