The Government announced last week its plans to send refugees who are applying for asylum to Rwanda while their cases are decided.

This is a shocking announcement on an ill -advised, unworkable scheme that NATECLA cannot endorse.  Those people who are seeking sanctuary should do so in safety and not expect to be forced onto planes and taken into an uncertain and potentially dangerous environment.

Those seeking asylum should expect to have a fair hearing for the claim to asylum in the UK. NATECLA feels the Government is out of step with public opinion on this matter. In recent months the UK has welcomed and opened its homes to Afghan and Ukrainian refugees. NATECLA urges the Government to show more compassion and drop plans for the scheme immediately.
