The latest edition of Language Issues is here! Language Issues is free for NATECLA members. You should have been sent a copy of it last week. If you have not received a copy please email info@natecla.org.uk.

This latest Language Issue edition is packed with interesting articles such as:

  • “To come out, or not to come out?” a report on the experiences of LGBTQ+ English language teachers working in a range of UK contexts.
  • Tools of the trade: evaluation of a bespoke work-related English language course for newcomers in Northern Ireland with suggested ways forward for policy and training routes for new arrivals.
  • Functional Skills English – to do or not to do, that is the question - Mary Osmaston reports on a recent survey carried out by NATECLA and provides evidence of the key role language plays in progress with educational goals and the need for an ESOL policy.
  • Critical incident analysis: the week ESOL classes were cancelled explores the dissonance between the role ESOL teachers bring to the classroom and institutional expectations.
  • Blended learning in ESOL: Is this the ‘new normal’? Explore possibilities for current and future ESOL classrooms, drawing on learners’ voices and recently published articles.
  • Developing essential digital skills amongst elementary level learners of ESOL in Islington Adult and Community Learning is a project report which shares the devices and digital skills that it is useful to focus on.
  • Research summaries from the EAL Journal (Issue 15 Summer 2021)
