ESOL Coordinator, Cardinal Hume Centre, London

ESOL COORDINATOR (12 month contract – maternity cover)
Salary: £31,235 p.a.

The Cardinal Hume Centre offers a diverse range of services for homeless young people, families in need and the local community on one site in Westminster.  Our services include residential support for young people, a range of advice services, family support, immigration advice and advocacy, employment support and learning.

ESOL is one of the Centre’s most popular services reaching over 120 client learners each week through a combination of small group and 1-1 activities.  Most of these are delivered by volunteers – we currently have over 30 qualified volunteers teaching, facilitating and mentoring our learners.

We are now seeking an ESOL Coordinator to provide maternity cover starting in September 2015.  In this role you will oversee the running of the ESOL service recruiting, supervising and supporting volunteers, designing and teaching courses, and supporting learners to deal with some of the issues they are facing.  This will involve close coordination with the Centre’s other services and outside agencies including local colleges.

You will have an appropriate English language teaching qualification (Diploma in Education & Training, DTLLS, PGCE or equivalent with ESOL specialism) and at least 3 years+ teaching experience, preferably gained working in a community learning environment.  You will have experience of supervising or managing staff/volunteers in the workplace, and of developing services.

With proven commitment to supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged people to improve their own lives, you will also have a strong understanding of the issues faced by migrants in the UK.

The Centre offers a pleasant working environment, competitive terms and conditions, and opportunities for training and development.

Closing date for applications: Thursday 23rd July at 5pm
