QCA accredited Certificates in ESOL Skills for Life. These qualifications are available at Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2 on the National Qualifications Framework. At each level learners can either: -enter an ‘all modes’ qualification taking units in three separate modes: Reading, Writing, and combined Speaking and Listening or -enter a combined Speaking and Listening assessment which is a full qualification in its own right. Learners entering an ‘all modes’ qualification can choose to enter at different levels in different modes to reflect varying levels of ability in the different skills. The Speaking and Listening qualifications have proved particularly useful for short courses and for learners applying for citizenship who need to provide evidence of their level of spoken language competence. All units and full qualifications attract LSC funding. Details of the qualifications which each Awarding Body offers can be checked on this website http://www.openquals.org.uk/openquals/simplesearch.aspx?nav=key Earlier in the year the QCA proposed the withdrawal of the ESOL Skills for Life Speaking and Listening mode as a full qualification from the National Qualifications Framework. As a result of representations made the QCA has retained full qualification status for the speaking and listening mode.
