See also Teacher Training page of our site http://www.natecla.org.uk/content/477/teacher_training/ Professional Recognition Learning and Skills provides an opportunity for Skills for Life practitioners to seek recognition of their knowledge and skills. Following the successful piloting of Professional Recognition Learning and Skills (England) Skills for Life, this scheme is now available to applicants nationwide. The scheme, which is funded by the Department for Education and Skills, is time-limited and will run from September 2006, closing in Summer 2007. The process is open to practitioners who entered the profession prior to mandatory requirements. Recognition relates to the requirement to hold both a recognised generic teaching qualification and an approved subject specialist qualification at level 4. Practitioners without a recognised teaching qualification and wishing to apply for recognition must have entered the workforce prior to the introduction of the requirement from September 2001. For practitioners with a recognised teaching qualification and wishing to apply for recognition for their subject specialism only, the following eligibility applies: • Literacy and Numeracy practitioners must having been teaching these subjects prior to September 2002 • ESOL practitioners must have been teaching these subjects prior to September 2003. Successful applicants will be placed on a register by an agent for the DfES and will have the same status with regard to Success for All targets as those meeting the regulations for new entrants. In order to apply for Professional Recognition, applicants should request an application pack from the Recognitions Administrator, Standards Verification UK Tel 01132 410426 Email: recognition@lluk.org Further advice on the application process is available through the LLUK National Reference Point – tel 020 7936 5798 (This service is dedicated to the support of Skills for Life professional development enquiries and is an extension to the existing helpline). There are two opportunities for applicants to submit: For Autumn recognitions applications may be submitted between Monday 4th September and Friday 20th October 2006. Decisions will be notified by letter by 15th December 2006 For Spring recognitions applications may be submitted between Monday 8th January and Friday 23rd February 2007.
