The NATECLA Midlands Day Conference, 'Creative ESOL' promises to be an unmissable day in the ESOL training calendar.

All ESOL practitioners - from managers and researchers to teachers and trainees - are invited to join us for an innovative programme of practical workshops and networking opportunities, plus vital updates from the ESOL sector.

Collaborative Writing by Angie Simms

Do you find it difficult to motivate your learners to write? Do they groan when you suggest they try a written task in class? Collaborative Writing may be the answer. In Collaborative Writing activities, co-authors work together throughout the writing process – planning, composing, revising and editing – to produce joint texts. This workshop offers a brief overview of the advantages of using this strategy with second language learners, as well as tips and techniques for making it work in your classroom.   

Getting Creative with Grammar Teaching by Jo Gakonga

Teaching grammar sometimes gets a bad press. In this practical workshop we will look at some of the evidence that teaching grammar explicitly is useful for adults and give you some hands-on, take-it-into-the-classroom-on-Monday ideas for tasks that can liven up your grammar teaching and give learners opportunities to use the target language repeatedly in creative situations.

Making feedback really effective by Christine Tudor-Jones

Is feedback where engagement and learning fizzle out of your lesson or where learning really takes off?  This workshop looks at some evidence showing that immediate and authoritative feedback is least helpful for learners.  It offers an opportunity to experience and evaluate in a practical way a variety of feedback methods and gain some insights into the underlying principles of effective feedback.
