Qualifying to teach adult literacy, numeracy or English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

Date posted: 13 July 2007 - Talent

All teachers in the post-compulsory sector need to have, or be working towards, an approved teaching qualification – for example, a Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS), a Certificate in Education or a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

Teachers and trainers in any sector also need to be competent in the subject or vocational area they teach. This may be through qualification at degree level (or equivalent) or through considerable occupational experience. For teachers of literacy, numeracy and English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) this means completing a subject-specific qualification in literacy, numeracy or ESOL.

The talent website is an excellent source of information.
