IFL Recognition Route for QTLS

• If your employment commenced before 2007, and you have significant teaching experience of at least five years you are likely to be able to use this route.
• If your employment commenced after 2007, when teaching qualifications were required for all new teachers, you will not be able to use this route.

Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) and Associate Teacher Learning and Skills (ATLS) are a professional status that can be gained by successfully completing professional formation through the IFL website.

Professional formation is open to those that have a recognised teaching qualification. Those who do not have such a qualification may be able to use the IfL recognition route (IRR) as the equivalent of the recognised teaching qualification, thus allowing them to go on and achieve professional formation.
Whether you are eligible for the IfL recognition route (IRR) will depend upon when your employment in the FE and skills sector commenced.
