NATECLA North West Workshop 14 Nov 2009
Victoria Mill Adult Learning Centre opened its doors for the regional NATECLA workshop on Saturday 14th November. Individual and institutional members met for the ‘Fun Morning with Doughnuts and Christmas Raffle’ event.
The fun was supplied by the two speakers Josh Gaillemen and David Perry who delivered wonderful, thought provoking presentations. The presentations initiated interesting conversations between members as they enjoyed coffee and donuts.
Josh spoke about how to teach ‘story telling’. He provided a wealth of practical ideas on how to encourage developing orators to engage their four senses when telling a story. These included the use of kinaesthetic activities as well as movement.
David Perry provided an insight into the subject of peer observation. He discussed ways of stepping into the role of ‘understander’ during feedback sessions.
At the end of the event all the participants were given certificates of attendance. A lucky few took home raffle prizes!!

NATECLA Midlands
On Sat 21 November we ran a local Training Day attended by nearly 70 people. Workshops were led by Mario Rinvolucri of Pilgrims UK, Sue Colquhoun of IfL on all the Institute for Learning regulations and registration details and there were 2 very popular practical workshops from Joanna Williams on working with beginning readers and writers in ESOL classes and Jane Sjoberg on 'Smart use of the Smartboard'. We all shared a delicious curry lunch and enjoyed the opportunity to network. Both NATECLA members and non-members attended this training day and we will be running similar events next year.
